Comeback Medvedev Secures Maiden Title in Over Two Years

Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 titles have been achieved on hardcourt

A revitalized the Russian player won his first title for nearly 30 months with success over Frenchman Moutet in the competition final.

Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has endured a difficult year, managing just a single victory at the big events and suffering a setback at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serving in particular - caused him falling of the top ten and ultimately splitting with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.

Now working with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has consistently advanced in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over opponent Moutet.

It is his maiden trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard court after spring of that year.

Success also indicates the Russian has achieved twenty-one titles at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my children at once, so to get a championship is really nice," said tennis professional Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I won when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six finals, including in that event in the past months.

His counter-punching strategy and recurring reactions on the tennis court had prompted observers to wonder if his skill to play at the top level was finished.

Yet the 29-year-old has made changes in the past month, striving to advance forward and compete assertively, backed up by an enhanced serve.

The champion recovered from a deficit in the initial set against the difficult opponent, securing 4 of the final five games to take the lead.

Both players swapped break points in the second set before the Frenchman, attempting for his maiden ATP Tour victory, took control to force a decider.

The opponent defended 4 initial break points in a competitive third set before the Russian won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, the winner earned the win with a point at the net area, with Moutet failing to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
