It's difficult for Australia to set fresh records.

The highest peaks have long been mastered.

We're talking about the squad that has won seven Cricket World Cups, plus an additional six T20 titles, and earlier maintained nearly four years undefeated in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, the ones sought by the record chasers, are what's still available for a side that has achieved everything.

That it took up to Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to complete their first ODI chase over 300, reclaiming their record for the largest in women's cricket's 50-over format, is, frankly, a tribute to the bowlers that have represented Australia over five decades.

It's challenging for their hitters to maintain a record if not afforded the possibility.

Finally, the result of Australia allowing 330 runs was captain Alyssa Healy being given a platform to create her most recent brilliance.

Initially recognized as the young family member of renowned former Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she debuted in 2010 after her nation failed to win either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups held the previous year and has experienced everything through 15 trophy-laden years since.

A T20 championship victory came three months after her bow and seven global championships have come from 10 tries across formats.

The determined wicketkeeper was also there in Derby in 2017 when a last-four loss by India briefly halted the successful run.

That loss "pushed us to reevaluate our levels," Healy stated recently.

At the next 50-over World Cup in New Zealand, Healy scored 170 against England in the title decider and was awarded tournament MVP. She guaranteed her country would not come up short.

If this recent magnificent innings surpassed that earlier display remains open for discussion.

Many contend the argument supporting the pressure of a final. Different voices suggest with the test that comes when facing a record target and a raucous India-supporting crowd of 20,000.

What is certain is this hundred was far harder to anticipate.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 happened while she topped the run-scoring charts, but this innings was preceded by six games in India since the start of last month in which she had been unable to reach 30.

"If you've been watching me in practice sessions, it was a challenging time because it seemed I've had no rhythm whatsoever," commented Healy.

"Yet the moment you enter the playing area, your competitive instincts activate and you completely engage with the match."

Healy's fighting spirit has always been her key asset - and an invaluable trait in succeeding iconic ex-skipper Meg Lanning.

She was challenged by India's rising star Kranti Gaud in the previous month's ODI series, dismissed by the young fast bowler in all three matches, but on this occasion it simply offered Healy's spark.

A single was taken off Gaud's first delivery and from that point Healy was in motion.

"An opportunity to take the field and face the challenge with her and just have a bit of fun in that aspect, sort of got me going," said Healy.

She got to fifty in 35 pitches - her fastest at a World Cup - and her hundred in 84 balls as she punished short deliveries, striking 21 boundaries and three big hits.

By the time she was out Australia needed 66 more at a run-a-ball - an achievable target now needing a comfortable finish.

"To chase 330 is uncharted waters so I'm pleased we have the belief to achieve that now," stated Healy further.

"Hopefully we don't have to repeat it but, if we do, we know we can achieve it."

Those words will be the ultimate thing rival teams at this tournament want to hear.

During the last week a sense they will win from any position has only strengthened - this success succeeding victory over Pakistan by 107 runs despite struggling at 76-7 at one stage.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before a meeting with old rivals England in Indore in 10 days, by which point a semi-final place may likely be confirmed.

During that phase they exited the prior year's T20 World Cup in an unexpected loss by South Africa - an encounter Healy missed because of damaged tissue in her foot as she led her country for the first time at a significant event.

So strong is her resolve, she later said she wished she had played despite the injury.

But while she subsequently acknowledged those physical issues have delayed thoughts of retirement, this World Cup is anticipated as her final tournament as skipper in 50-over cricket and she is hasn't yet secured a global event as leader.

Victory in India would lead her to the peak of her last major obstacle.
